Your own mail server
Updated on 2026-08-22
De server die de bevestigingen, herinneringen en portaalcodes van dit salon verstuurt. (The server that sends this salon's confirmations, reminders and portal codes.)
Instellingen → Koppelingen → Communicatie → Mailserver → Instellen.
The fields
| Field | Required | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Server | yes | for example smtp.voorbeeld.be |
| Poort (port) | yes | 587 by default; 587 met STARTTLS is het gewone geval; 465 is SSL. (587 with STARTTLS is the normal case; 465 is SSL.) |
| Beveiliging (security) | yes | STARTTLS (aanbevolen) (recommended), SSL or Geen (none) |
| Gebruikersnaam (username) | no | |
| Wachtwoord (password) | no |
The test
Verbinding testen (test connection) makes the connection and signs in, nothing more. You read smtp.voorbeeld.be:587 aanvaardt de aanmelding. (smtp.voorbeeld.be:587 accepts the sign-in.) or the reason why it did not work.
No test email is sent, deliberately. That would be sending post on behalf of your salon, and a test connection button has no business putting anything out the door.
What is not here
The sender address. That is a salon setting and it sits under Instellingen → E-mail.
The technical sender address is not yours to choose either. The client sees the name of your salon, but the domain has to stay one for which SPF and DKIM can be set. An email on behalf of a domain that cannot be signed ends up in spam at Gmail — and then a confirmation the client never read is worse than no confirmation at all.
Replies do reach you, through the Antwoordadres (reply address).
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to fill this in? Only if you want to send from your own mail server. If you fill in nothing, the installation's setting applies.
Where do I decide which emails go out? Under Instellingen → E-mail. See Email to your clients.
